There are two highly anticipated fights on the Main Card for UFC 187: The Anthony Johnson vs. Daniel Cormier fight will determine the new World Light Heavyweight Champion and the Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort fight will determine the new World Middleweight Champion.
The UFC 187 event was originally expected to be headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between champion Jon Jones and top contender Anthony Johnson. However, Jones was involved in a hit-and-run car accident in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he lives. The hit-and-run resulted in the injury of a pregnant woman, and Jones reportedly fled the scene. This incident has resulted in Jones being stripped of his belt as well as him being suspended indefinitely.

The co-main event for UFC 187 is also highly anticipated and is expected to feature present UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weldman and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and UFC 12 Heavyweight Tournament winner Vitor Belfort. This delayed pairing has been rescheduled several times including UFC 173, where Belfort withdrew from the match following the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s ban on testosterone replacement therapy. These two were also scheduled to fight in UFC 181 and UFC 184, where Weidman withdrew both times due to a broken hand and injured ribs, respectively.
