Georges St-Pierre is about to tie Anderson Silva’s record for consecutive title defenses and UFC 167 will bring him one step closer to that. In fact, St-Pierre has the longest standing title reign after Silva! While this may give him extra ammunition in the fight,  Hendricks won’t go down easy.
Johny Hendricks is from Oklahoma and has won six straight fights. His wrestling credentials and power to knock-out his opponent  may present St-Pierre with a match-up he hasn’t seen recently. When Georges has faced other wrestlers in the past, he used his jab to avoid any power punches. He will need to do this again as Hendricks is arguably one of the scariest strikers in the welterweight division right now.
What makes Georges St-Pierre scary is his record for most takedowns in UFC history. The Canadian scored 61 takedowns in his past ten fights and was not shut out in a single one. Hendricks defense against takedowns isn’t the strongest. Johny prefers to use his fists to win instead of focusing on takedowns.
The biggest obstacle for Johny Hendricks in this fight will be St-Pierre’s history in championships. St-Pierre is practically a veteran in UFC Championship bouts as this will be his fourteenth. While Hendricks has not made it past 3 rounds in his MMA career.
Will Georges St-Pierre gain the needed step toward breaking Silva’s record? Or will Hendricks dethrone the welterwight champion? Sapphire is the only place to find out the answer this Saturday night.
